I’ve had a few days now to distance myself from my emotional responses in this comment thread. I read an entry in Her Desires about a similar situation, and was tempted to take down all these comments. Ultimately, as author of this website, I decide what appears on it.
What stopped me from taking these comments down is my stand against censorship. This whole website is an exercise in freedom and power. Everyone is welcome to express their opinions, no matter how misled. However, as in real life, freedom and power have its responsibilities. No one is immune from the laws of cause and effect. If you upset someone, that person may retaliate.
Which brings me to the subject of banning. Why, you may ask, did I ban this person if I so believe in free speech? I’ll tell you it wasn’t easy. I’ve never had to ban anyone. I kept thinking that if I just explained to this person who I truly am and what this site is about, he’d have a change of heart, and/or he’d just quietly go on his way in search of what it is he wanted to see in the first place. But after three hostile posts, it just became boring and monotonous. So like the orchestra at an awards show, I just had to cut him off his longwinded go-nowhere speeches. I don’t like dwelling on negativity, and I will not encourage it in my website.
I don’t expect everyone who comes upon my website to worship me. What I do expect is intelligent insightful discourse. How asian males feel about some asian women being in love with white men is a subject worth looking into, but name calling, unfounded accusations, shaming, stereotyping and threats are not methods of discussion. I am sure asian males vary in their opinions on the subject at hand, so I know the above thread is just one man’s opinion. But here it all is for you, my readers, to see and judge for yourselves.
