Porn as Performance Art
Like sports, the feats that porn stars do require quite a bit of training. Relaxing one’s gag reflex to accommodate a deep throat fellatio takes time. I myself do not consider myself accomplished in the act, although I’m above average. Catalina, on the other hand, is amazing! Unlike sports, however, no one is objectively judging one’s accomplishment in executing these acts. An inexperienced woman is just as likely to arouse the viewer as an experienced woman who is able to do more with her body. In this, porn is less a sport and more performance art. Porn, like comedy, elicits an immediate reaction from an audience. One cannot pretend to be aroused or to laugh. It either happens or it doesn’t, and it is very subjective. What one considers good porn or good comedy, another person may not enjoy in the least.
Sexual performance for an audience is very different from sexual performance for only one partner. My body arches differently when performing for an audience, allowing the viewer to see into what would otherwise be an intimate act. When I’m alone with my lover, I tend to close my eyes more, turn inward, allow myself to enjoy the sensations. When I’m performing, I keep my eyes open, I turn more outward, make louder sounds, talk more to describe the sensation, create a tactile experience for the viewer through only sight and sound. Like in acting, when one weeps alone in a room, it is different from when one weeps in front of an audience or a camera.
