I agree with you that animation should be used to create things that are hard to do in real space. In the vein, you can use things that do not exist – tentacle porn – or shoot a regular scene with perspectives that are impossible to get, like a shot that tracks from overhead to a single drop of sweat.
I guess with porn’s being focused so tightly on people’s bodies and faces, drawing the characters too photo-realistically makes the “uncanny valley” problem harder. Cartoons are good, filming real actors is ok, but at some point in the middle the characters look like zombies and most people find it unsettling.
